The Rule of Thirds is a work of fiction in the romance, suspense, interpersonal drama, and family drama subgenres, and is the third novel in The Annie Hawkins Green series. The work is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Jeannée Sacken, this tale thrusts readers into the heart of the chaos and danger of war-torn Afghanistan whilst also delivering a powerfully emotive drama. The story follows Annie Hawkins, a seasoned photojournalist battling her own PTSD demons, as she returns to Afghanistan to cover the Taliban's takeover. Her personal stakes are high as she seeks to protect her daughter Mel, who's working in Kabul.

Author Jeannée Sacken has crafted a work that captures the atmosphere of fear and tension that permeates the city as the Taliban advances, delivering suspense and thrills alongside a compelling romantic and family drama plot. A feature that surprised me about the work was the highly authentic portrayal of the complexities and dangers of journalism in conflict zones and the unwavering determination of individuals to make a difference. This is a rare angle from which to approach a romantic suspense novel and that made for great reading. The narrative skill surrounding Annie's character was also multifaceted and relatable, offering insight into her unique situation but still allowing readers to feel close to her in her everyday struggles. Overall, The Rule of Thirds is a pulse-pounding thriller that delves into the power of love, resilience, and the sacrifices people are willing to make for a cause greater than themselves, and I would certainly recommend it as a unique work in its genre.
