Thought Gazer by Raymond Bolton is an epic adventure tale that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. In a war-torn world, Peniff the Thought Gazer finds himself facing a moral dilemma — go along with the warlords as they kill and destroy ... or betray them at risk to his wife and two children. Peniff has the gift of mind reading, and not only does he have the gift in ways much stronger than other Thought Gazers, he also finds unique ways of using the gift that scare him. Through his journey, Peniff faces injury, the possible loss of his friends and family, and the likelihood that his betrayal will cost him his life. Along with travel companions, Bedistai and Darva, Peniff’s quest plays out in an action-packed, page-turning fantasy adventure that will surely please fans of this genre.

Peniff, Bedistai, and Darva are authentic, fully developed characters that leap off the page. It is not often that I find myself reading a book and truly fretting for the lives of certain characters, but because they were all in constant danger, and because author Raymond Bolton did such a superb job of making them true-to-life, I was dreading anything bad happening to them. Also, I adored the endaths — fantasy creatures used by the three for riding — and loved the relationship they had with Bedistai in particular. I also enjoyed the budding romance between Bedistai and Darva and felt it was done with just enough subtlety for this type of book and story. Peniff’s character was a perfect blend of tortured hero and true friend and family man. There is so much more to say about the different lands, the war, the evilness of the warlords Harad and Hath, the cool double suns, and the overall journey, but you will have to read Thought Gazer to learn more. I absolutely loved the book and recommend it to all fantasy fans!

Thought Gazer (The Ydron Saga Book 2) by Raymond Bolton is a fantasy story set in a dark and dangerous time. Peniff has the special gift of telepathy. But when warlords discover Peniff’s talents, his gift becomes a nightmare. Warlords imprison his wife and children in an effort to control Peniff and, more importantly, Peniff’s abilities. But Peniff is a moral person and he doesn’t want his gift used for evil. But how can he save his family if he refuses to work for those who have control over them? Thought Gazer is a story about one man’s struggles with doing the right thing. It is about how Peniff overcomes his fears to do what is necessary to stay loyal to himself, but also take care of his family in their desperate time of need. But can he save them in time? And what happens if he starts to lose control over the one power everyone desperately wishes to use for their own personal benefit?

Thought Gazer is a very interesting fantasy story that is full of all the elements you want in a fantasy book: a beautiful world described in rich and vibrant images, deep characters that stand on their own and come alive on the pages, and a main character that is so conflicted it drives the story’s tension throughout the entire book. I loved the fact that Peniff struggled so much to do the right thing. Bolton did a nice job of making Peniff’s pain and struggle real, and I really connected with that. I understood Peniff's motivations and felt Bolton did a great job of creating a real and likeable character.

Raymond Bolton wrote an incredible fantasy story in Thought Gazer (The Ydron Saga Book 2). The story is all about Peniff, a moral man trying to live in a war-torn area. He wants to keep his family safe and stay out of trouble. But Peniff has a secret. He is telepathic. And when people find out about his talent, everyone wants Peniff working for their side, and they don’t ask nicely. Instead, they put Peniff’s family in prison and force Peniff to work for them. But Peniff has too much moral sensibility to let his gift be used as a weapon. He wants to refuse, but he knows what will happen to his family if he does. He has to figure out a way to rescue his family and make sure they are safe before he can betray their captors. But he isn’t sure how that possibility can become a reality. And he isn’t sure how much longer he can stall using his talent for the terrible design they have in store for it.

Thought Gazer is an epic fantasy and Bolton does a wonderful job of drawing us into this complex and fascinating world. There were many interesting characters that I fell in love with. I enjoyed every minute of this story and really felt drawn into this strange and dangerous world. I think Bolton also did a nice job with his settings and describing this world. That was one of my favorite parts about the story, getting to know this world. It was beautifully described and I felt at home in it.
