Private investigator Harry Bennett longs for a case more challenging than background checks, custody battles, and cheating partners. His wish comes true when a cop with a personal vendetta discovers Harry’s fingerprints at a murder scene, one that Harry never visited. The mystery of his fingerprints runs parallel to a unique mystery that begins when Harry awakens to find a trail of women’s clothing from his bedroom to the bathroom. Who was the woman Harry cannot remember entertaining, and how did the cat get into his apartment? Failing a current lady friend, he has no clue to begin discovering who she is or why he can’t remember her. Harry stays ahead of the murder investigation, but his alibis are wearing thin, and the investigating detective has a long-standing score to settle with him.

Debut novelist Helen Wills has hit the ground running with a psychologically charged murder mystery thriller guaranteed to put lead character Harry Bennett on the path of fandom among the likes of Sam Spade, Mike Hammer, and a handful of others. Harry is the ultimate “good guy with issues” that will endear him to mystery detective fans throughout what will undoubtedly become a long-running series. Giving aid along the way is a supporting cast of characters that are as real as any I’ve met through the hundreds of books I’ve read, from Buddy, his best friend and former police partner, to Charley, his childhood friend, now an IT expert and next-door neighbor, Sophia, a most unusual and sexy maid, and finally, Dr. Janet Worth, a psychiatrist who may prove to be the key to all the mysteries. Not to forget Van, the mystery cat with almost human characteristics! A Past Best Forgotten earns kudos to Helen Wills for her debut novel; I’m looking forward to book two!
