"Hell on earth, that’s what this part of the world was. He was really looking forward to getting out of here, going back to crowded Chicago, to art galleries, concerts, the theater — all of those places — and being in the company of one of the beautiful, sophisticated women he knew." Jace Constant was not a happy man. Not only did his job require him to spend time in this God-forsaken desert, he now found himself responsible for the overgrown dog that occupied the front seat of his car...at least until he could locate Alice Treemont to take the mongrel off his hands. He silently kicked himself for this Samaritan act of rescuing the stray in the first place. Alice Treemont. Probably some backwoods old cat lady who claimed to be the Blake's Folly animal whisperer. But when Alice Treemont met him at her door, all of Jace's city desires emptied into the dry Nevada land. Chicago felt so very far away.

Author J. Arlene Culiner has created the perfect story for all the hopeless and hopeful romantics out there. All About Charming Alice is chock full of human emotion and the honesty of the perils of love. The language is simplistic, representing the very simplicity of small town values. In the town of Blake's Folly, everyone knows everyone else's business and unabashedly inserts themselves into the lives of neighbors, creating many amusing moments where personal privacy is an alien element. All About Charming Alice is a delightfully refreshing story. I really enjoyed it and appreciated the wholesome manner in which it was written.
